Prelude should have been RWD from the beginning.

Awesome! Surprised this build has so much support on that . Reading the thread it looks like this car is now in project car hell. I wonder if it will ever get finished.

I think I know what happened...

Honda: Finally we have something to compete against the sporty coupes in europe and america...but wait...they...THEY'RE RWD! OH NO STOP BUILDING THE- no. It's too late. I can't cancel the orders. Oh god...I might have to make something with more than 6 cylinders in it..what do I do...

*Window crashes in*

Honda: Holy shit, it's beigeman!

Beigeman: Got a tip that you were about to produce something fun to drive, and powerful?

Honda: It's true! Save me beige man!

Beigeman: NO PROBLEM!

* strikes honda HQ with the beige ray, which drains all the fun an excitement from anyone in it's presence*

Honda: It's working! My engineers are completely abandoning RWD, V8 Designs and...sex? Uhh...

Beigeman: Don't worry about that, it's a side effect of the ray. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm badly needed in America. I heard GM is overrun with RWD V8 muscle cars!

Honda: Bye Beigeman, and thank yoooooooouuu!!!

* beigeman theme plays as he flys away in a camry*

Might be overthinking it, but there might be some significant symbolism in there.

Especially when you consider how close the H engine is to the F20.

Ive been watching that one for a couple months now. Sadly, its probably gonna die away like every other rwd prelude build thread. I think there is only 1 5th gen rwd conversion known to exist. And it uses some complex custom stuff by still using the stock H22 positioning.

The guy later put it up for sale:

There have also been maybe 3 documented rwd 4th gen prelude conversions. There could be more but it would take a while to find them. This particular one being mid engine:

And then an AWD 4th gen...

Sadly not many people do these things because its cheaper to buy something else rwd, and go crazy with engine mods than it is to do the conversion.

Of course i wish my prelude was rwd. But its not, and its still awesome anyways. If i want rwd with classy styling, 240's are the answer.

The Prelude was around for long enough as a FWD car that it really could be considered tradition, though. Would be nice if they had a RWD line of sports cars, but I can see how it's a tough business case to design a car AND an entire family of drivetrain components for it when you know it won't be a volume seller. Has Honda ever designed a RWD transmission aside from the S2000?

Preludes are actually a lot of fun, though. I had a blast with my '95. You just won't be doing any mad-tight Tokyo drifting, yo.

Classy 240's may be the answer, but have you ever found a 240 in classy condition, especially a pop-up headlight model? I gave up looking.

I don't care about 'tradition'. RWD would have been a better fit for this car, which is why so many garage mechanics try to fix the problem themselves years later.

Well considering it took me over a year to find my particular prelude, which was and is mint, you cant give up looking. It takes a LONG TIME. But they are out there. And you gotta be willing to travel 300+ miles for it. Otherwise, yeah, they are pretty darn rare.

Cool to see someone working a widebody without a bunch of shit glass. Get the applause for this one.

Too bad they can't find a flat-plane crank/cam kit for the LS so the exhaust note isn't so obvious.

I used to have a 4th gen prelude. They come up in clean condition from time to time. Great prices too (unless you're selling). I have never seen a 240 for sale that wouldn't look at home in this collage I just assembled from the results of a craigslist search for "240sx".

Im not doubting the majority of 240's are the driftomods, Because most of them are missileprojects. BUT, if you look hard enough for long enough, youll find what you want. Ive come across about 6 or so in the past year that were cars i personally would have purchased. Clean, unmolested. But only about 6, which is still a very small number.

I've seen 2 or 3, but they were automatics. I guess they could be swapped, but that takes them off the "dirt cheap sports car" list.
